Château-Calon-Ségur Marquis de Calon 2013
|Region||France, Bordeaux, St. Estephe|
Wine EnthusiastThis wine is full of juicy Merlot, ripe with sweet tannins and jammy fruit. It is soft, with the freshness of the year as well as having hints of structure. It is ripe, beautifully fruity and will be ready to drink from 2018.
Wine SpectatorFriendly, with a cassis and bitter plum profile that is carried by lightly singed sandalwood and tobacco notes. Stays soft and open through the finish. Drink now. 11,250 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Marquis de Calon-Segur has an easy-going, uncomplicated raspberry coulis and black cherry bouquet that has more fruit intensity than I was expecting, probably because of the Merlot component. The palate is medium-bodied with rather hard tannin on the entry, a little hollow on the mid-palate with sour cherry and strawberry on the finish. It's a little lean overall so drink this over the next 3 to 5 years.
