Nittardi Chianti Classico Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa 2017
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Chianti Classico|
Each year, the label artwork for this wine is different. This vintage is dedicated to a Greek artist and musician. The 2017 Chianti Classico Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa opens to a dark and savory bouquet that highlights heavy aromas of tar, road paving and black licorice. There is some smoke and Spanish cedar in there as well. The hot vintage has brought out those darker or blacker aromas on the Sangiovese scale, and this wine is slightly thicker and less acidic in terms of mouthfeel. There is ample power here, it's almost overdone, but I would recommend this wine for near- and medium-term consumption, maybe with some grilled sausages. Grapes are sourced from a single vineyard planted 500 meters above sea level.
