The delicious 2008 Montefalco Sagrantino Chiusa di Pannone sees fruit sourced from a single vineyard spot just beyond Antonelli's gravity winery. This is a dark, wintery and richly etched red wine that delivers bold intensity and tight tannic firmness. In fact, the tannins offer an extra point of astringency in this slightly cooler vintage. This is a dark and brooding red wine that needs time to evolve and soften. The wine is in no hurry and nor should you be.

A harmonious red, layering creamy tannins with flavors of plumped black cherry, fig cake and dried thyme, and boasting a rich undercurrent of smoky minerality on the silky palate. Long and intense, this builds on the lasting, well-spiced finish. Drink now through 2028. 1,450 cases made.

Dark red-ruby. Expressive aromas of dark red plum, black currant, mocha, peppery herbs and violet. Sweet, broad and pliant on entry, showing outstanding weight and concentration to the dark fruit and spicy flavors, then more austere in the middle, but suave on the persistent, ripely tannic finish. A very pure, enticing Sagrantino that is not as unbearably tannic as many of the top versions from other producers, this offers lingering notes of violet and spicecake and greater concentration compared to the entry-level 2010 Sagrantino by Antonelli.
