Attractive medium deep red colour. Forthcoming lifted aromas of fruitcake and tomato paste, cinnamon, cloves and smoky blackberry emerging too. Shiraz component dominated by the Bordeaux varietals at this stage and new oak component nicely integrated. Elegant dry tannin running with the complex spicy fruit from beginning to end of a long fine finish. Best 2012 to 2020. Ideal with a variety of fine, roasted red meat dishes.

Mature but lovely, with singed cedar, coffee and loam notes moving to the fore, while the steeped blackberry and black currant fruit melds into the smoky finish. Long and suave, with a gorgeous, smoldering character. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2014. 50 cases imported.

The 2007 Elevation 393, a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 20% Shiraz and 13% Cabernet Franc, has a very ripe blackberry, boysenberry and iodine aromas cloaked in vanilla-y oak. The palate is medium-bodied with cedar-infused, charred black fruit, crisp acidity and a rather brusque but appealing, masculine finish. Drink now-2018+ Another set of superb wines from one of Stellenbosch's finest exponents: David Trafford (see also Sijnn.) These were mainly very well crafted, expressive of both varietal and place and should merit cellaring.

Good bright ruby-red. Smoke and mocha on the very ripe nose; showing more syrah than cabernet today. Round and sweet on the palate but without quite the clarity of the 2008. Ultimately a less complex wine, finishing with a slightly herbaceous character and a touch of dryness.
