This is a powerful and brooding wine. Blackberry, blueberry, purple flowers and sweet baking spices meld seamlessly together on the nose. The power of the wine is immediate and impressive, with firm tannins demanding your patience. The wine gifts you sweet tobacco, dried herbs and spiced plums on the finish, just enticing you to see what happens next. Drink from 2025-2040.

One of Masi's two top-shelf wines, the 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Mazzano is a dark, tarry wine with oozing fruit and all kinds of toasted spice and tobacco. This is a production of 14,980 bottles. Mazzano usually shows more volume and concentration (compared to its sister wine Campolongo di Torbe), and you get a rather unforgiving 16% alcohol content.

The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Mazzano impresses with a mentholated mix of crushed wild berries, plums, lavender and sage. It's soft-textured yet racy in style, with brisk acidity motivating its mineral-tinged red and black fruits. The 2013 becomes decidedly spicy and savory through the finale, leaving balsam herbs and tobacco hints lingering. The Mazzano vineyard is a windy and high-elevation site (350-400 meters) with limestone-rich soils, translating beautifully into the finished wine.
